Apple has now posted out-of-warranty service fees for every iPhone it launched this fall. The Pro models are almost unchanged from last year. The foldable iPhone Duo is a different conversation entirely — a $999 inner display and a $1,499 ceiling on "other damage."
Note: This article is a summary of reporting published by MacRumors, 9to5Mac, Tom's Guide, Macworld and Tech Advisor, based on Apple's own published service-fee tables. Original sources are linked at the end of this post. Prices are U.S. figures and do not include tax or shipping.
First, a lineup correction worth making
If a customer walks in asking about "the iPhone 18," there is no such phone yet. Apple's September 9 event introduced three devices: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Duo. The standard iPhone 18, the 18e and the Air 2 were all pushed to spring 2027. For now, "iPhone 18 series" means Pro and Pro Max only.
iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max: mostly a repeat of last year
Apple updated its "Apple Service and Repair for iPhone" page in mid-September with the Pro pricing. The only line item that moved is the battery.
| Service | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone 18 Pro Max | iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery service | $129 | $129 | $119 |
| Back glass damage | $159 | $159 | $159 |
| Rear camera damage | $249 | $249 | $249 |
| Screen damage | $329 | $379 | $329 / $379 |
| Screen and back glass | $419 | $469 | $419 / $469 |
| Other damage | $849 | $899 | $849 / $899 |
The battery fee rose $10, from $119 to $129, and Apple has not explained why. The timing lines up with larger cells in both Pro models — Apple's EU technical specifications list 4,056 mAh for the 18 Pro and 5,391 mAh for the 18 Pro Max, up from 3,988 mAh and 4,823 mAh on the 17 Pro generation. Everything else held flat.
With AppleCare+, the fee structure is the same as it has been across recent iPhones: $29 for screen damage, $29 for back glass, $99 for other accidental damage, and no charge for a battery once capacity falls below 80 percent. Apple's page also carries its usual caveat — it inspects the device before setting a final fee, and authorized service providers set their own prices.
iPhone Duo: the numbers landed the day before pre-orders
Apple held back Duo out-of-warranty pricing for over a month after the announcement. The AppleCare+ fees were known earlier; the uncovered prices were posted on October 14, one day ahead of pre-orders.
| Service | Without AppleCare+ | With AppleCare+ |
|---|---|---|
| Cover layer (inner display film layer) | $49 | $19 |
| Back glass damage | $199 | $29 |
| Battery service | $229 | $0 (below 80% capacity) |
| Rear camera damage | $229 | $99 (standard accidental fee) |
| Outer display damage | $379 | $29 |
| Outer display and back glass | $509 | $99 (standard accidental fee) |
| Inner (folding) display damage | $999 | $99 |
| Other damage | $1,499 | $99 |
| Theft or loss | Not covered | $149 |
The Duo starts at $1,999 and runs to $3,199 for the 2TB model. A $999 inner display replacement is exactly half the base price of the phone. The $1,499 "other damage" ceiling is 75 percent of it.
AppleCare+ for the Duo is $19.99 per month, $199.99 per year, or $399 up front — tied with Vision Pro as the most expensive AppleCare+ plan Apple sells. That pricing only makes sense alongside the table above, which is presumably why Apple published both at once.
The cover layer is the part worth paying attention to
Apple's VP of hardware engineering, Kate Bergeron, confirmed that the nano-texture cover layer sitting above the inner folding display is removable and replaceable. That is a meaningful departure from the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold approach, where the inner protective film is structural and peeling it off risks permanent panel damage.
Two caveats for anyone fielding questions about it. First, it is not user-replaceable — Apple is clear that customers should not treat it like a screen protector, and application happens in store. Second, the pricing confirms it is a real service tier, not a courtesy: $19 with AppleCare+, $49 without.
The practical effect is that a worn, scratched or creased inner surface becomes a $49 problem instead of a $999 one. That is the single biggest durability concession Apple made on this device, and it will shape how long first-generation Duos stay in service.
What this means on the bench
The Pro models need almost no repricing. Screen, back glass, rear camera and combination-damage fees are identical to the iPhone 17 Pro generation, so existing quote logic carries over. Adjust the battery line and move on.
The Duo creates an unusually wide gap between Apple's price and a third-party price — wider than any iPhone before it. A $999 inner display and a $1,499 damage ceiling put a lot of customers into the "get a quote elsewhere" mindset for the first time on a brand-new flagship.
But the gap is not evenly distributed. Outer display, back glass and battery work on the Duo is conventional repair in an unconventional chassis. Inner folding panel work is not, and parts supply for the Samsung Display-made folding panel is an open question for the independent channel. A realistic opening position for most shops is to quote the outer display, back glass, rear camera and battery, and refer inner panel and hinge damage until parts availability and teardown documentation settle.
Timeline. Pre-orders opened October 16 and the Duo shipped October 23 in more than 70 countries, with another 28 following on October 30. Expect the first accidental-damage walk-ins in November, and expect them to arrive already knowing what Apple charges.
