| Tech’s note | Honest version: the hardest part of a Flip 7 screen job is the outer screen coming off. The border between the bezel and the folding OLED underneath is so tight that the moment a pry tool goes in, damage is one slip away — without real experience on foldables, that first move often IS the damage. I’ve been doing this a long time, and even I get it wrong once in a while. When that happens, the customer gets a brand-new genuine screen on us, and the job earns nothing — the panel costs what it costs, and the labor is all that’s left. Why foldable screens die — and why genuine only
Flips and Folds fail in their own particular ways. Here’s what we see on the bench, and the rule it taught us.
Folding glass is fragile by nature
A screen that bends thousands of times lives a harder life than a flat one — even Samsung’s own panels crack and fail more readily than a regular phone’s. It comes with the territory.
The cable behind the fold
Behind the screen runs a cable linking the upper and lower boards — and it flexes with every open and close. Sooner or later that cable gives out, and the screen goes dark exactly like this one did.
Genuine only, no exceptions
If the original panel struggles, an aftermarket copy struggles sooner. We won’t fit one on a foldable — a genuine screen brings the phone back to like-new. Anything less brings it back to borrowed time.

The new panel arrives as a screen-and-frame assembly — so the whole phone migrates into it, piece by piece.
The step that decides the job
Outer screen and back glass come off first — and this is the moment the whole repair balances on. The gap between the bezel and the folding OLED is barely there; the pry has to land exactly where it belongs, at exactly the right depth. This is where foldable experience is the difference between a repair and a second broken screen.
The broken frame empties out
Board, battery, cameras, charging board, speaker, wireless coil, vibration motor — every part comes out of the dead assembly and lines up on the mat. Foldables pack a lot of phone into two small halves, and all of it is coming along.
Everything settles into the genuine panel
The new genuine Samsung assembly takes each part back in the reverse order — both halves, the hinge cable seated with care, every connector clicked home. When the last screw goes in, this is effectively a new phone wrapped around the same board and the same data.

Does my data survive the repair?
Yes — completely. Your data lives on the main board, and the board simply moves into the new screen assembly with everything else: photos, messages, apps, logins, all untouched. The work takes about 2 hours on a foldable. Data staying put is the standard here on every repair — even board-level work like this dead iPad Pro 11 goes home with every file intact.
Can you do it the same day?
Usually, yes — a Z Flip screen runs about 2 hours on the bench, so a morning drop-off typically goes home the same day. Genuine foldable panels are stock-dependent, though, so ask first: checking takes us about five minutes, and you’ll get a firm yes-or-no on the spot.
